HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

French tank crews were easily recognizable by their distinct and practical uniforms. The most iconic piece of their protective gear was the modified steel tank helmet, which featured a removed front brim to accommodate sighting optics and thick leather padding to protect against head injuries from the violent jolts of 1930s-era machines. Over their standard wool service tunics, crewmen typically wore double-breasted M1935 leather jackets that provided excellent protection against oil, grease, and the cold.
