HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The TOG Citadel was a super-heavy tank concept made to meet the requirement specification presented by the British Army to the "Old Gang" committee in late 1939, intended to supersede early concepts with a specialized vehicle capable of breaching the German Siegfried Line. Envisioned as a massive "land battleship," this initial configuration differed from the final TOG I prototype by prioritizing a heavy hull-mounted howitzer for demolishing concrete fortifications over a primary turret, while relying on sponson-mounted machine guns for infantry suppression. The Citadel specification strictly demanded a chassis of immense length to cross 16-foot wide trenches and mud. While never built, the Citadel served as the basis for the TOG I.
