The Old Gang

The TOG series was a line of experimental British heavy tanks developed by The Old Gang (TOG), a group of World War I tank designers who sought to create a modern “land battleship” for World War II. The initial concept, the TOG Citadel, was a theoretical design emphasizing trench-crossing ability, thick armor, and endurance in static warfare. This vision took shape in 1940 with the TOG I, a massive prototype armed first with a French 75 mm gun in the hull and later a Matilda II turret. Though heavily armored, it proved slow and outdated for the fast, mobile warfare of the era. In response, engineers developed the TOG II, completed around 1941-42, featuring a more powerful diesel-electric drive and a large turret capable of mounting a 17-pounder gun. The tank offered improved firepower and mechanical reliability but remained excessively heavy and slow. Models of these kits will be available on our store soon.
